Common Questions
Everything You
Need to Know.
Answers to the questions we hear most often.
Truthly is a Catholic learning platform. Its primary feature is an AI tool grounded in the truth of the Catholic faith.
It helps you ask questions — about faith, life, morality, relationships, purpose, culture, current events, productivity, or anything else — and get answers rooted in the Catholic intellectual and moral tradition.
Truthly is a starting point for seeking truth, not a replacement for deep study, trained experts, the pastors and spiritual directors who walk with you, or the sacramental life of the Church. Instead, it points people toward those things by helping them understand the faith — the kind of understanding that is meant to be lived, not just learned.
Truthly is also more than AI. We offer tools to help you find Mass and confession nearby, read the Bible with daily readings and verse-by-verse insights, engage daily Catholic content, and take in-depth courses on Catholic teaching.
AI is quickly becoming the place people go to search, learn, plan, and understand the world — but most tools are not grounded in a Catholic view of reality.
Truthly gives you a way to learn the Catholic perspective on everything — faith, work, culture, parenting, news, relationships, productivity, and the random question that shows up at 11:47 p.m.
We’re here to help you seek boldly, live intentionally, and share confidently. 🔥
Learn more: How Is Truthly Different?
Truthly’s AI tool is grounded in the three pillars of Catholic authority — Scripture, Tradition, and the Magisterium — and designed in a way that reflects and promotes the truth about the human person and human flourishing.
Truthly currently uses large language models (LLMs) from Anthropic and OpenAI. We aren’t tied to any single provider, and we continuously evaluate which models best serve our users in fidelity to Church teaching, so the models we use can change over time.
What makes Truthly Catholic is not the LLM itself. It's the safeguards, the grounding in authoritative sources, the review process, and the foundational commitment that Catholic teaching is true — not one perspective among many.
Yes. Truthly is built to help people bring a Catholic perspective into everything.
That includes questions about faith and morals, but also culture, work, parenting, relationships, current events, productivity, decision-making, and everyday life.
Not every question someone has is explicitly religious. But every question can be approached with a view of reality shaped by truth, goodness, beauty, human dignity, and the Catholic faith.
A lot — and we are just getting started. 🔥

And yes, we are building more than just AI tools. Truthly is becoming a place to learn, seek, grow, and bring the Catholic perspective into everyday life. 🕊️
No. Truthly cannot absolve sins, confer grace, replace deep study, or provide spiritual accompaniment.
It delivers information about the faith and points people toward the sacraments, prayer, Scripture, community, and the pastors and spiritual directors who can walk with them.
Truthly is a door, not a destination.
Yes. Like all AI tools, Truthly can produce answers that are incomplete, inaccurate, or poorly framed. Treat it as a helpful tool, not an infallible authority, and double-check important answers.
If you see a bad answer, please report it with the thumbs-down button or send us a message here.
Truthly is designed to distinguish between settled Church teaching and areas where faithful Catholics may reasonably disagree. That means it treats dogma, doctrine, discipline, prudential judgment, liturgical law, custom, theological opinion, and historical or empirical claims differently.
Yes — come on in. 👋
Truthly is built from the heart of the Catholic Church, but it is for anyone seeking truth: Catholics, Protestants, people in OCIA, skeptics, seekers, the spiritually curious, and the “I have a question but I’m not sure who to ask” crowd.
You do not have to be Catholic to use Truthly. Just know the answers are given through a Catholic lens — rooted in Scripture, Tradition, and the Magisterium.
By design, Truthly rejects relativism, is built to point people toward real relationships rather than simulate them, measures success by a test Pope Leo draws from Pope St. John Paul II — whether it makes human life “more human” — and reflects a Catholic understanding of the human person. It treats AI as a valuable but limited tool that requires vigilance.
These design choices reflect the encyclical's call for wise architects who serve the common good.
We discuss Magnifica Humanitas in depth in A Catholic Framework for AI.
Used well, AI is a supplement, not a replacement. A tool can complement a capability you already have, but it cannot create one you never developed. So the order matters: build your own capacities — reading, reasoning, praying, sitting with hard questions — and then use the tool to assist your thinking. That's the posture Truthly is built to encourage. It can provide information, sources, and arguments that give your intellect more to work with.
When a question calls for more than information, Truthly is designed to point users toward a priest, spiritual director, or Catholic counselor.
Current AI systems use significant energy and water. But consumption varies considerably by task type. The International Energy Agency estimates that simple text queries now typically consume less electricity than running a television for the same length of time. Other uses are more demanding — generating high-resolution images may require ten times more energy, and video generation hundreds to thousands of times more. That is part of why Truthly focuses on text-based learning and formation rather than high-consumption features. We’re committed to using AI with restraint and purpose, and to choosing the most efficient tools that do the job well.
Truthly is designed not to produce sexually explicit content or material contrary to Catholic moral teaching.
Truthly currently has two plans. Both include a 7-day free trial.

No. Truthly can provide information about general Catholic moral principles, but it does not replace a pastor, spiritual director, confessor, doctor, lawyer, financial advisor, or counselor.
For important decisions, get appropriate consultation.
And if someone is in immediate danger or may harm themselves or others, contact emergency services, a crisis hotline, or a trusted person (especially a priest) nearby right away. Crisis situations require human intervention.
Great question. Prayer, surrender, an incredible amount of grace, and the very simple belief that technology should help people encounter the truth — not drift from it.
Also a Chick-fil-A drive-through and a decade-long friendship.
